What is the Rockingham Beach Cup?

The Rockingham Beach Cup is an iconic two-day celebration showcasing Western Australia’s only beach horse racing experience. It is set against the stunning Rockingham Foreshore and brings locals and visitors together for a vibrant weekend of entertainment, community connection and coastal fun.

Who runs the Rockingham Beach Cup?

The Rockingham Beach Cup is a community-organised racing event, led by Rotary Club of Palm Beach WA.

When will it be held?

14 - 15 November 2026, with the horse racing on the 15th

How many horses and races are there?

There are four exhibition races, with five horses competing in each race.

What is the distance of the races?

The track is 800m long – which is a much shorter than most regular thoroughbred races. The track is graded after each race.

Do the horses and jockeys get any breaks at the event?

There is a minimum of 45 minutes between races and a one-hour break before the final.

What facilities are provided to ensure the horses are well cared for between races?

There are 20 separate stable areas, which are all under shaded marquee cover and have full airflow.

Is there easy water access for the horses?

Yes. There is water available in each stall.

Who looks after the horses at the event?

In addition to trainers and owners caring for their own horses, there is a Racing Manager, Track Manager, Stable Manager, Strappers and Clerks of Course.

Are there veterinarians on course at the event?

Yes.

Are there veterinarian checks on all horses prior to and during the event?

Yes. These include heart rate, temperature, capillary refill and trot up checks.

How well do the jockeys and horses handle racing on the beach?

Beach work is common as a training practice in terms of building fitness as a part of regular horse training regime. The water also has a positive effect for the horses in terms of cooling and recovery for their ligaments and joints.

Have there ever been any injuries recorded for any horses during in the running of the Rockingham Beach Cup?

No.

Are the jockeys allowed to use whips during the races?

Whips are carried for safety purposes only

Are there any concerns regarding weather conditions during the event?

The time of year when the event is held usually provides suitable weather, but the conditions are constantly monitored.

What impact does the Rockingham Beach Cup have for the local economy?

In 2025, the event returned nearly $1.1 million to the local economy.

Is there any prizemoney for winning the Rockingham Beach Cup races?

No

Can I place a bet on any of the horses in the Rockingham Beach Cup.

No. There is no gambling associated with the Rockingham Beach Cup.

Where do the funds raised from the Rockingham Beach Cup go?

Funds raised through the Rockingham Beach Cup support important causes, including Variety – the Children’s Charity, MSWA and Palm Beach Rotary community projects.

Do patrons get the chance to interact with the horses at the Rockingham Beach Cup?

Yes, people get the opportunity to get closer than usual to the racehorses, both on the beach and through Racing WA’s Off the Track WA stall.

Where can I park if I attend the Rockingham Beach Cup?

There is ample free parking at Anzac Park during the event.

Will there be EFTPOS and Credit Card Facilities at the event?

EFTPOS facilities will be available at the Palm Beach Oasis presented by Sound Tax & Accounting, for food and beverage purchases.

Should you need, ATM facilities are available within a 5-minute walk from the event.

What is the dress code for the Palm Beach Oasis?

This year our inclusive licensed area will consist of both grass and sand. We recommend wearing beach appropriate footwear – such as a dressy sandal.

What time do gates for the Palm Beach Oasis open and close?

On Sunday doors to Palm Beach Oasis presented by Sound Tax & Accounting opening from 11:00am. The event will conclude at 5:30pm.

Will there be vegetarian or special dietary options available in the Palm Beach Oasis?

We will have gourmet food trucks available in the licensed area that will accommodate for a range of dietary requirements. If these don't suit your needs there will also be a large range of options available in the community festival that you are welcome to bring back into the ticketed area.

Can I bring my pet to the Rockingham Beach Festival?

Please leave your pet at home. Service dogs permitted.

Are there facilities for people with Special needs?

Yes, facilities will be available for those with special needs to easily access the Festival.
